What Not to Do When It Comes to Interior Swimming Pools

Common Mistakes When It Comes to Indoor Swimming Pool Construction

Below are a few common indoor swimming pool construction mistakes that you should avoid at all costs and a few helpful tips.

Under-Sizing the Dehumidification System

When it comes to sizing a system that will dehumidify a swimming pool room, you need to consider two factors, the first being the compressor section that can meet the evaporation rate; this is based on the pools size, water temperatures, and activity factors. The second and the most often overlooked, is the air turnover rate, in layman’s terms, air handling component based on the cubic feet of a space.

Many companies will size for evaporation; however, they overlook the need to consider the VOLUME of the room. Inadequate air movement is disastrous due to humid air stratification, which results in the rapid deterioration of the upper structure components of a swimming pool enclosure.

We Can Heat the Room With the Pool

There are so many companies that design and build swimming pool enclosures that will tell their clients they do not need a dehumidification system, as the heat from the pool will heat the room. That is total bunk, heating up an indoor pool that is outside of the normal range of temperatures will, in fact, increase the evaporation/humidity levels when water is warmer than air. So when dehumidification is not enough to handle these increased loads, this can result in increased operating costs, building damage, corrosion, rust, mold, and mildew growing within the structure.

Expensive Building Materials Will Make Your Building Maintenance Free

There are several design-build companies and architects that will recommend using expensive building materials that will help to negate the effects of high humidity. Sadly, this is a total waste of money, simply because when there is an excess of humidity combined with chlorine, then it is only a matter of time before every type of the so-called “waterproof” materials and metals will fail.
